Battle of Spotsylvania Next Civil War Topic

The Foundation of Wayne Community College’s series of lectures on American Civil War battles continues Tuesday, May 20 with a talk on the Battle of Spotsylvania.

Considered by some to have been some of the most ferocious fighting of the war, the battle was waged to thwart Union General Ulysses S. Grant’s attempt to capture Spotsylvania Court House in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The battle lasted two weeks and neither side could claim victory.

The next lectures in the series are on the Battle of Cold Harbor, June 17; Battle of Petersburg, July 22; and Battle of the Crater, Aug. 19.

All are set for 7 p.m. and will be held in Moffatt Auditorium. They are free and open to the public with no reservations or registrations required.
