Course Introduces Public Safety Careers

Wayne Community College Continuing Education Services will offer a class this summer to familiarize students with a variety of public safety careers.

The 15-day “Pathways to Careers in EMS/Fire/Law Enforcement” course introduces the basics of the processes, procedures, and work habits used in emergency medical services (EMS), fire fighting, and law enforcement. Through training, tours, and practice interviews, students will gain a general understanding of job requirements and career opportunities in the public safety field.

The course also covers soft skills needed in the workplace including communication capabilities, organizational strategies, and stress management techniques.

Students will have the opportunity to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate and receive training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

An orientation and registration session for the course will be held 9-10 a.m. on July 9 in Room 161 of the Wayne Learning Center (main building) on the college’s campus in Goldsboro. Classes will run 8 a.m.-noon, July 13-Aug. 5.
