Q: Can you provide information about the connection of domestic violence and self-esteem?
A: Domestic violence often has more than one point of origin. A lack of impulse control, anger issues, substance abuse and or a struggle for power in the relationship are some of the possible causes. These influences may occur in different combinations at different times. People with a healthy level of self esteem do not feel the need to abuse others to meet their needs.
The bottom line is that domestic abuse should never be allowed to continue because abusers typically escalate the violence to keep control. Getting away from an abusive relationship is not easy, but living with abuse is never acceptable. There are agencies, programs, family and friends who are able to help.
Domestic violence is not limited to physical violence and the abuse may be subtle in the beginning. Victims have to remember they are not to blame for the abusive behaviors of others but are responsible for taking control of their life and behaviors.

To apply to Wayne Community College, the first step is to do a WCC application. Click on the link below for the WCC application.

He will then need to take our placement test, which is free and not timed.
This will determine where in Math, Computer English and Reading classes he can start.

If he has not decided what to major in, he can contact our Career Center, also at the same link as above.
For more placement test review options, he can contact the Academic Skills Center http://www.waynecc.edu/academic-skills/. The Academic Skills Center also provides tutoring services for students when they start classes.
After a student takes the placement test, they will be given the results of their test, be assigned an advisor in their area of study, and given a time and place to sign up for classes, depending on when they would like to start.
