Hybrid is a college credit course in which a portion of the learning activities are completed on-line. Contact hours traditionally spent in the classroom or lab are reduced. The goals of a hybrid are to join the best features of face-to-face instruction with the best features of on-line instruction; to promote active, independent learning; and to reduce class seat time. Students must attend the scheduled face-to-face meeting times and must have access to a computer and the internet to complete independent assignments. Hybrid courses have the same standards, required competencies, and credit hours as traditional seated or totally on-line courses.
Web-assisted is a course that is offered for college credit where the delivery method is face-to-face and there is no reduction of hours of seat time. Additional resources, review materials, and learning activities will be incorporated on-line for the students use.
Interactive Television, or ITV, courses have two-way interactive video technology that connects colleges, secondary schools, and other agencies throughout the state. ITV enables a student to attend face-to-face classes that may be taught at WCC or received from another institution. ITV enables the course instructor and students in classrooms at one institution to hear, see, and talk to students in comparably equipped classrooms at other locations.
Telecourses are pre-recorded classes that students check out from the library and view at their convenience. Students follow a course syllabus, view specific lessons or lectures on DVDs or Video tapes, read and work through assigned materials, and submit course work as directed by an instructor. Telecourses may or may not be web-enhance. The instructor for each course will set the requirement for on-campus meetings, classes, means of communication, and testing.
