Institutional employment may be available in a limited degree to students with special skills and abilities who do not qualify for financial aid. Inquiries and applications should be directed to the Work-Study Coordinator.

Special Programs:

Top 10 Scholarship Program

Scholarship offered to students who enroll in one of ten high demand/low enrollment programs and meet eligiblity requirements. This scholarship will cover the costs of tuition and required fees only for up to two years. The award amount will be based on each student’s enrollment status. Currently the Top 10 programs are: Autobody Repair, Aviation Systems, Criminal Justice-Latent Evidence, Electronics Engineering, Emergency Preparedness, Information Systems Security, Machining, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Assisting, and Turfgrass Management.. Eligible programs are subject to change without notice. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office.

Child Care Assistance Program

Child Care Grants are available for students enrolled full-time at Wayne Community College. Grants are limited and are based on “greatest need”. In order to be considered for these grants, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), maintain satisfactory academic progress, complete a Child Care Assistance application and have at least one child enrolled in a licensed center. Priority is given to returning, single, low-income parents who are not receiving aid from another source.

These grants are intended to help off-set the costs of child care in a licensed center while students are attending school full-time. For more information about this program contact the Child Care Assistance Coordinator.

Nurse Scholars Program

The Nurse Scholars Program (NSP) is a competitive, merit-based scholarship/loan program available to students who have been accepted into the nursing program. The scholarship provides college scholarship/loans for outstanding high school graduates and other persons pursuing an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

This scholarship is awarded to eligible full-time students in the amount of $3,000 and may be renewed for one year.

Applications are mailed to eligible candidates or may be available from the College Foundation of NC.

Nurse Education Scholarship Program

The Nurse Education Scholarship Loan Program (NESLP) was created to provide need-based scholarship loans, working in combination with existing financial aid resources, to encourage enrollment and retention of qualified nurse education students.

Scholarship loans vary in amount based on each individual’s financial need and the cost of attendance at Wayne Community College. Awards range from $400 to $3,000 a year in the ADN and LPN programs.
