Automotive Systems Technology (ATEP)

Do you need to “jump start” your career? The Automotive Systems Technology (ATEP) curriculum is designed to prepare you for a career in the ever-changing fast-paced automotive service industry as an automotive technician, with potential opportunities in service management and self-employment. Through a combination of class, lab, and cooperative work experience, you will learn the basic theory and analytical skills necessary to troubleshoot many high-tech control systems with the latest diagnostic equipment.

Graduates are prepared to take the ASE exams and enter the industry as a mid-level automotive technician in dealerships and repair centers.

Nissan Technician Training Academy LogoThe Nissan Technician Training Academy (NTTA) prepares you for a career as a factory-trained technician at Nissan or INFINITI dealerships nationwide. You’ll gain hands-on automotive diagnosis and repair experience to step one of the estimated additional 6,000 technician jobs Nissan and INFINITI dealerships expect to offer over the next 5 years.

By participating in NTTA, you’ll earn either a two-year Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or diploma in Automotive Systems Technology. You may be eligible to receive certification toward the following core specialty areas:

Electrical

  • Basic Electrical Concepts
  • Advanced Electrical
  • Heating, Ventilations & Air Conditioning
  • ASE A6 (Electrical/ Electronic Systems) and ASE A7 (Heating & Air Conditioning)

Chassis

  • Chassis
  • Noise, Vibration, and Harshness
  • ASE A4 (Suspension & Steering) and ASE A5 (Brakes)

Driveline

  • Noise, Vibration, and Harshness

NTTA graduates who complete and pass the courses may be considered a Specialist technician. Those who also pass the corresponding required ASE certifications may be considered a certified Specialist technician.

The Mopar® Career Automotive Program (CAP) program gives you the training and fundamental knowledge needed to work on some of the hottest vehicles in the industry from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram, FIAT® and Alfa Romeo brands. Mopar CAP certification gives students a competitive edge and shows dealers you have the fundamental qualifications to be a successful automotive technician at an FCA dealership. Things to Consider

The demand for automotive technicians is high and projected to grow rapidly. With more than 700 dealerships across the state, employment opportunities are available wherever you choose to live. Students can also build on this degree by transferring to East Carolina University and earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology.
