November 2010 Exhibit – Thanksgiving

Every year Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States on the last Thursday of the month of November.  A new WCC Library book exhibit in the newspaper area highlights children’s books about Thanksgiving, as well as books about the Pilgrims, the Mayflower or cooking a great Thanksgiving meal.

For information about the Pilgrims and other traditions they brought to America with them, or created once they began their new lives here, visit the website for the Plimoth Plantation which includes information about the Pilgrims, as well as about a replica of their ship, the Mayflower II.

November 2010 Exhibit – Native American Heritage Month

This month the WCC Library is celebrating Native American Heritage Month with book exhibits placed in the newspaper area and the bulletin board area.  In 1990 President George H.W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 as “National American Indian Heritage Month.”  Similar proclamations have been issued each year since 1994.

The library’s book exhibits feature fiction titles, children’s books by Native American authors, as well as biographies about American Indians, including famous historical figures such as Sitting Bull and Pocahontas.

To learn more about Native American history, visit the Library of Congress’s page for online exhibits and collections as well as image collections.
