New NC LIVE Database: Small Engine Repair Reference Center

The Small Engine Repair Reference Center provides users with detailed, yet user-friendly repair guides for all manner of small engines.  Features included in the database are:

  • Over 440 full-text reference books with original photos and illustrations that guide the user through every job
  • Information on more than 25 years of many engine models
  • More than 80,000 repairs are covered
  • Routine maintenance information on topics such as tune-ups, brake service, and even extensive repairs involving engine and transmission disassembly
  • Ability to select a type of product, specific brand, specific model/engine type, and specific area of that model/engine type
  • All model numbers are also searchable

The Small Engine Repair Reference Center is available under the Other Research Resources Links tab and then under the Other Databases link. It is listed in the category of Business and Technology.

New NC LIVE Database: Small Business Reference Center

The Small Business Reference Center offers a wide variety of information on small business and entrepreneurial subject areas, common business types, a help and advice section, and provides information on how to create business plans that lead to successful funding. It also includes business videos on a wide variety of topics and state-specific resources. The Small Business Reference Center is available through WCC Single Search using the search category Business and Technology.

New NC LIVE Database: Points of View Reference Center

The Points of View Reference Center is a full-text database designed to provide students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. The database provides more than 290 topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument), counterpoint (opposing argument), and Critical Thinking Guide.

The database  contains a balance of materials from all viewpoints, including more than 1,300 main essays, leading political magazines from both sides of the aisle, newspapers, radio & TV news transcripts, primary source documents and reference books. Each of the main essays includes links to related full-text articles hand-picked by the editor.

The Points of View Reference Center is available through the WCC Single Search using the search category Quick Search.

New NC LIVE Database: Legal Information Reference Center

The Legal Information Reference Center contains hundreds of full-text publications and thousands of legal forms. The full-text legal reference books are provided through Nolo, the nation’s oldest and most-respected provider of legal information for consumers and small businesses. The database also offers the everyday user the necessary tools and detailed “how-to” instructions to independently address a wide-range of legal issues.

The Legal Information Reference Center is available through WCC Single Search using the search category History and Government.

New NC LIVE Database: Environment Complete

Environment Complete offers deep coverage in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, renewable energy sources, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. The database contains more than 2.6 million records from more than 2,300 domestic and international titles dating back to 1888 (including over 1,350 active core titles). Environment Complete is available through WCC Single Search using the search category Business and Technology.

New NC LIVE Database: Entrepreneurial Studies Source

Entrepreneurial Studies Source offers users full text for more than 125 key periodicals, 135 reference books, numerous case studies, thousands of company profiles and over 600 videos with transcripts and related articles from the Harvard Faculty Seminar Series and Vator.TV, one of the world’s largest social network sites for high-tech entrepreneurs.

New NC LIVE Database: Biography Reference Center

The Biography Reference Center is another new database provided by NC LIVE and EBSCOhost. This database offers a comprehensive collection of more than 461,000 full-text biographies, including the complete full-text run of Biography Today and Biography, as well as thousands of narrative biographies that are not available in other databases.  The Biography Reference Center also offers more than 30 genre categories including actors, authors, composers, etc.

The Biography Reference Center is available through the WCC Single Search using the search category Quick Search.

New NC LIVE Database: Art & Architecture Complete

Art & Architecture Complete is a new database provided by NC LIVE and EBSCOhost. This database provides coverage of more than 300 periodicals and 200 books as well as more than 63,000 images provided by Picture Desk and others. Art & Architecture Complete covers a wide variety of pertinent subjects, including antiques, art and art history, interior and landscape design, and much more. Art & Architecture Complete is available through WCC Single Search using the search category Literature and Art.

Updates to Exisiting NC LIVE Databases

At the beginning of the year, NC LIVE updated some of the existing databases that we have access to through WCC Single Search. The main change is that there is more content and more of the content is full-text. The updated databases include:

January 2012 Exhibit – From Books to Movies

January is also a great month to celebrate books that have been made into movies. The Erwin Library’s bulletin board exhibit area features some of the past, present and future movies that were books first.
