Not sure how to share streaming videos with your students? Or, would you like to learn more about resources in all formats that the Erwin Library offers to WCC faculty in support of student learning?

Perhaps the library’s newly created Research GuideFaculty Guide to Erwin Library, available on the Erwin Library homepage under LIBRARY GUIDES AND RESOURCES will help you.

There, you will find step-by-step guidance for locating and using streaming videos from the library’s many databases, making reservations for information literacy sessions, and leading your students to helpful library resources, both print and electronic.   Once you explore the new Faculty Guide, feel free to let us know if there are other topics you would like to see covered in that guide; or, if you would like to have a similar Research Guide created specifically for one of your classes, to include in your students’ Moodle class page

New! Student Guide to Using Erwin Library Resources

Created by Erwin Reference Librarians, and now available in both the Library User Services section of the Erwin homepage, as well as in the “Support Information” section of all WCC Moodle class pages, the new Student Guide to Using Erwin Library Resources is a one-stop guide for your library adventure.

We take you through applying for a library card using an online form application, through focusing on a paper topic, to finding a wealth of scholarly articles, books, and streaming videos, to documenting all your resources in the final paper.

A new video tour of the Erwin Library, and many video and PDF tutorials, supported with links to other authoritative online help sites, will carry any student from his or her first Erwin Library card to a fully researched paper with properly cited resources.

As always, we also encourage you to visit, phone (919-739-6890), or email ( the Erwin Reference Librarians if you have any questions, or need any help with your library research!

Beekeeping DVD Collection

Erwin Library now hosts a Beekeeping DVD collection. These materials have been purchased and donated as a collection by the N.C. State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA), and are available for loan to any affiliate of the NCSBA, as well as to WCC faculty.

To see which items are available in this collection as well as Erwin Library’s small collection of beekeeping books, visit the Beekeeping bibliography.

WCC Single Search

The Wayne Community College Library has a new feature on our main webpage. WCC Single Search is an integrated database search for both WCC library databases and NC LIVE databases. You can enter a search term in the main search box, choose a category and find resources via the EBSCOhost Integrated Search.

The file box on the main page also has a tab to search the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). Journals A-Z is a search for any journal or magazine title that the library owns, as well as all those that are available in the library databases. The last tab has Other Resources including other searchable databases, Internet Resources and Subject Bibliographies.

Give the new Single Search a try! If you have any questions or comments about the new WCC Single Search, please contact WCC Library staff at 919-739-6891 (ext. 6891 on-campus), or at

New Film Collections

The newest additions to the WCC Library’s resources are online film collections.  Faculty users have the option of adding these videos to their Blackboard classroom sites for easy viewing. We have a great tutorial with instructions for searching either of the video streaming resources and adding links to a Blackboard Course page so students can watch the films for an assignment.

Films on Demand is a web-based digital video delivery service that allows you to view streaming videos from Films Media Group.  There are more than 5,500 educational titles in dozens of subject areas.

American History in Video includes more than 2,000 hours of streaming video and more than 5,000 titles in all.  Included in this collection are more than 1,000 hours of newsreel footage from the 1890s to the 1980s.  Also, included are documentaries from companies like the History Channel. The above tutorial also contains information about linking these videos to your Blackboard classroom site.

Theatre in Video contains more than 250 of the world’s most important plays, together with approximately 100 video documentaries. These videos include a number of Shakespeare productions and famous play productions with famous actors like Orson Welles.

Contact us by phone at 919-739-6891, or ext. 6891 on-campus, or by email at for assistance in using any of these film collections, or with any other research questions!
