Faculty Users
Library Cards

All WCC faculty and staff members, whether part-time or full-time, must have a WCC picture ID made by the Student Affairs Office to which the Library barcode may be affixed.

For the ease of registering their students, faculty may request the library send a group of blank registration forms to them by mail to distribute to their classes so that the wait in line for verification and issuing of barcodes at the Library Circulation Desk will be much shorter. The Reference Librarian may be emailed with any such request at wcc-library@waynecc.edu, or telephoned at 919.735.5151, ext. 390.

A third party may present another WCC library patron’s card to check out materials for the absent patron, including audiovisual items for faculty, but the patron whose card is used will have full responsibility for the good condition and return or replacement cost of the items.

Computers

Since campus-wide restrictions in place for access to certain social networking or media streaming websites restrict some uses of the WCC Library student computer workstations, faculty who wish students to access such sites for a homework assignment may contact the Open Computer Lab in Magnolia Building (919.735.5151, ext. 312), clear the assignment in advance with the head of the Lab, and afterwards send their students to that lab to complete such an assignment under supervision of the Open Computer Lab staff.

Wireless Access

Wireless internet access is available in the WCC Library to WCC faculty and staff who are registered as WCC Library users, and have registered in person with their laptops in hand with the WCC IT Department in the Open Computer Lab (Magnolia 215).  WCC faculty and staff wireless registration expires when the employee is no longer currently employed with WCC.

Guests of the college, such as speakers, trainers or presenters, must be pre-registered with the WCC IT staff for temporary wireless access anywhere on the WCC campus. The request should be sent by email to the wcc-helpdesk at least a week in advance of the planned visit.

Information Literacy Sessions

The Reference Librarian conducts library tours and information literacy training sessions in the Library Classroom by appointment. In these sessions, students receive hands-on instruction for searching the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), the NC LIVE aggregate database, the Literature Resource Center database, and other internet and paper resources.

Faculty may request subject-specific sessions for their classes, such as searching literary resources for English classes, or medical resources for Allied Health classes.

Appointments for tours or information literacy sessions may be made in person, by telephone, email, or online, but should be confirmed at least a week in advance to ensure availability of the Library Classroom at the requested time slot.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Full Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service is available free to any faculty member with a current WCC Library card, and material may be picked up at the WCC Library Circulation desk by a third party presenting the requestor’s library card. No ILL item may be placed on Academic Reserve.

Online Databases

The Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) may be searched remotely from any computer that has Internet access, though holds may be placed only with a WCC Library card barcode. A password is required for remote access of the NC LIVE database, also with a WCC Library barcode verification, as is a password for both on-campus and of-campus use of the Literature Resource Center database.  All other subscription databases for which the WCC Library provides access will require either the NC LIVE or the Literature Resource Center password for remote use, as specified in the links set up on this website.

Reserves

By contacting the Reference Librarian in person or by email (wcc-library@waynecc.edu), WCC Faculty may place either WCC Library-owned materials or their own research materials on Academic Reserve in the WCC Library. The library requires at least three business days in advance to process a request to set up a reserve for a class, or to add on or remove items from a reserve list.

Books may be set up with a 2-hour in-house, one-day, or 1-week checkout period. Audiovisual items placed on reserve may only be viewed in-house in Academic Skills.

Faculty may request that sign-out sheets be mailed to them showing that their students have accessed certain materials placed on reserve. All Academic Reserve master lists and sign-out sheets are maintained in a single Reserve Notebook at the Library Circulation Desk.

Purchase of Materials

Faculty may suggest materials be purchased for the Library Collections by contacting the Reference Librarian in person, by phone (919.735.5151, ext. 390) or by email at wcc-library@waynecc.edu, who will verify bibliographic information for the title(s) and direct the suggestion to the Director of Library Services. Please include personal contact information if you wish to be updated about the status of the request, and you will be notified promptly.

Checkout of Materials

All General Collection books are checked out for a 21-day period and may be renewed online by the patron in the OPAC or by phone request to the Library Circulation Desk, if they are not yet overdue, for an additional 21 days. Though overdue items may not be renewed, they may be checked out again, once they are returned to the Library Circulation Desk and the account cleared.

Audiovisual materials circulate to WCC faculty for a seven-day period only, with a limit of three titles (a multi-volume set may be considered a single title) on a single library account at any one time.

Faculty may then take an audiovisual they have checked out of the library to the Educational Support Technology Department (Media) in WLC 306 to have a free educational copy made. When a faculty member returns the original copy of the audiovisual back to the library to shelve as a master copy, the new educational copy is thereafter the personal property of the faculty member and does not need to be inventoried by the library.

If a student wishes to check out an audiovisual item for a class presentation, a faculty member must check the item out for the student on the faculty member’s library account and be responsible for the return of the item to the library.

Reference items may be used or photocopied only in the library.

Fines

Though faculty are not charged overdue fees, they are responsible for the cost of replacement of lost items either owned by the WCC Library or items borrowed for the faculty member on ILL.
