Welcome to Wayne Communiity College

RECREATIONAL PROGRAM

The recreational program at WCC is designed to offer all students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to engage in organized sports or in some form of healthful recreation of their own free choice. The opportunities will include competitive team sports, competitive individual and dual sports, informal activities, noncompetitive activities, social activities, sports clubs, and recreational activities.

The promotion and supervision of the recreational program is controlled by the Student Activities coordinator.

One of the fundamental values of recreational activities is to involve representatives of all ages (students, faculty, and staff) in the direction and implementation of the program.

The recreational program at Wayne Community College serves all students by providing equal opportunities for participation without regard to sex or race. In addition to an annual survey of student interests, suggestions are welcome at any time.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The purpose of the recreational program is to provide an opportunity for all students, faculty, and staff to enjoy satisfying  experiences related to their particular needs, varying from the highly competitive type to those of a noncompetitive and recreational nature.

The objectives of the program are:

  1. To provide enjoyable experiences for students, faculty, and staff.
  2. To develop habits of participation which will carry over into everyday living.
  3. To promote activity.
  4. To teach respect for sportsmanship and the principles of fair play.
  5. To develop physical fitness, strength, endurance, power, agility, flexibility, and alertness.
  6. To provide opportunities for creative expression.
  7. To develop leadership and fellowship qualities.
  8. To provide an emotional situation that is conducive to learning.
  9. Attend meetings for unit managers.

The recreational philosophy is based upon the concept that all members of the college community should have freedom of choice, equality of opportunity, and responsibility for sharing in planning, supervising, and administering the program.
