WorkKeys and the Career Readiness Certificate
WorkKeys is a systematic approach to defining the basic skills required to perform specific jobs and occupations in terms that relate directly to the work performed. It also provides a method to assess workers’ basic skill levels in these same jobs so employers can better match an individual’s skill level to a specific job. Wayne Community College is the sole provider of these services in Wayne County and works closely with local businesses and the general public to help ensure the most accomplished workforce possible.
The Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is based on the three most prevalent WorkKeys skills identified in Job Profiles throughout the United States: Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information. The CRC is a portable credential, signed by the Governor of North Carolina, that reflects skill levels in these areas as determined by taking the WorkKeys assessments.
