Campus Projects this Holiday Season

Several campus organizations are conducting collections to assist others this holiday season. If any of these projects move you, please feel free to join the college community in contributing to them.

Phi Beta Lambda, Gamma Chi Chapter – toys for the MeFine Foundation

The MeFine Foundation is an organization that helps provide happiness for terminally ill children. This year, PBL has been assigned the 5200 Unit at Duke University Hospital, which houses several children with diseases requiring Bone Marrow Transplants – many going through treatment during the holidays.

There are many toys that are available that can be purchased for as little as $5. Anything in the following categories will be accepted.

Here is a list of approved toys the kids are asking for:
Legos
Science Kits
Remote Control Cars
Building Kits/Model Kits
Nerf Guns
Hello Kitty items
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Items
Board games
Art and Crafts
Play Doh
Sock Monkey items
Mario and Luigi items

Each toy must be new in original packaging to reduce the risk of infections. Toys are due by December 9 because they need to be processed and sanitized due to the fragile nature of the kids during treatments. Toys can be dropped off at in Rooms 241, 225B, or 225F in the Spruce Building or e-mail bmc@waynecc.edu to arrange a pickup if needed.

Money donations are also welcome. If you would rather write a check, please make it payable to Phi Beta Lambda.

– Bedroom shoes/slippers
– Undergarments
– Stationery items
– Books/crossword puzzles

Items must be new or unused. Donations will be accepted through December 18. They may be dropped off in the Student Activities Office. For more information, contact Student Activities Director Paige Ham at 919-739-6740 or peham@waynecc.edu.

Criminal Justice Club – items for clients of the Community Soup Kitchen

The Criminal Justice Club will be collecting socks, gloves, caps, snack cakes, crackers, soap, and shampoo (if anyone has any of these from past hotel stays, this would be great). The items collected will be taken to the Community Soup Kitchen and distributed December 24. Currently the soup kitchen is providing meals to 200+ people each day, which includes 20-25 children of varying ages.

Items may be dropped off in the Public Safety Division offices in the Pine Building, or you may contact
Michelle Rogers 919-739-6799
Beverly Deans 919-739-6798
Angie Blizzard 919-739-6801

We would like to have all donations by December 18.
