About the Foundation

The Foundation of Wayne Community College is a nonprofit organization established to support the students, faculty, staff, and programs of Wayne Community College.

Mission Statement

The Foundation of Wayne Community College provides financial assistance to students seeking learning and training opportunities and offers educational and cultural experiences for the community.

Foundation Purpose

The purpose of the Foundation is to broaden the base of community support in order to promote the educational development of Wayne Community College.  The establishment of the Foundation was a result of the recognition that tax dollars from the State of North Carolina and Wayne County could not meet all the educational needs of Wayne Community College students.  Increasingly, public institutions must rely upon private resources to fund new programs and to enrich the quality of existing programs. With these needs in mind, the Board of Trustees of the College established the Foundation of Wayne Community College in June, 1986.

The Foundation of Wayne Community College is the liaison between those who wish to invest in their community and the students of Wayne Community College. Since the establishment of the Foundation, individuals, businesses, and civic organizations have funded scholarships, purchased equipment, and made possible a variety of unique learning opportunities for deserving students.

Foundation Governance

The Foundation of Wayne Community College is governed by a 25 member board. Foundation board meetings are held four times a year. Active and committed board members serve on resource development, internal affairs, community relations, and finance committees that meet throughout the year.  The Executive Director oversees the operation of the Foundation.

Non-Profit Corporation

The Foundation of Wayne Community College, Inc. is a non-profit corporation organized under North Carolina and Federal laws in compliance with Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible. The Foundation accepts gifts of cash, real or personal property, or securities. Donations such as provisions of a will, gifts of insurance policies, or the establishment of trusts are all accepted.
