Linksmen Take Tourney Top Spots

While the students are the ultimate winners of the Wayne Community College Foundation Scholarship Invitational, a few players took home bragging rights from this year’s tournament at Walnut Creek Country Club.

The team with the best net score, at 56, was the “Scholarship Team” of David Allen, Larry Boyce, William Brewer and Gareth Jones. Second place with 58 went to Professional Data Management’s team of Mitchell Ivey, Matthew Ivey, John Lyon and Ed Wilson. The Arnold Wilbert Vault team of Johnny Davis, Chris King, David Searles, and Bruce Tart placed third with 59.

Coming in first with a gross score of 53 was the BB&T team of Eddie Daniels, John Daniels, Michael Sauls, and Todd Williams. Second was Mike Dubrowsky, Kevin Speight, Ross Zacharuk and Jimmy Zills, as the Precision Plumbing team with a score of 57. Third belonged to the Piedmont Natural Gas team of David Bowden, Carol Bowden, Charlie Waters and David Kravies, scoring 57.

Awards were also given for longest drive: women (hole #10) – Kathy Woodard and men (#11) – Bill Brewer; and closest to the pin: women (#3) – Tammy Brown and men (#15) Gareth Jones.

The tournament is held annually to provide scholarship funds for students at the college. The 2015 event will be held June 10.

The Foundation of Wayne Community College is a non-profit organization that works to broaden the base of community support for educational opportunities at the college. In addition to providing scholarships, it funds innovative campus projects and employee recognition, and offers cultural programs for the community.
