Public Voter Drive among Constitution Day Activities

Wayne Community College will hold a voter drive and set up educational displays to celebrate Constitution Day on Sept. 17.

The Wayne County Board of Elections will be in the Atrium of the Wayne Learning Center (main building) on the college’s campus in Goldsboro to assist any student or member of the public who would like to register to vote. That activity will take place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During that time, the college’s Current World Problems class will have a display on constitutions around the world and the Student Government Association will provide refreshments and a display of its constitution.

Students also will be able to participate in Constitution Day quizzes based on U.S. citizenship through naturalization test questions.

The voter drive is open to people who are U.S. citizens by birth or naturalization, residents of North Carolina, residents of the county in which they intend to vote for 30 days before the next general election, at least 18 years old or will be 18 by the next general election, and if previously convicted of a felony, they must have had their citizenship rights restored. They also must rescind any previous registration in another county or state.

Constitution Day celebrates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Constitution and Citizenship Day educational programs are mandated by federal legislation for all educational institutions that receive federal funding.
