Nathan J. Trent, a Criminal Justice Technology/Latent Evidence student at Wayne Community College, is this year’s recipient of an Academic Excellence Award.
This award recognizes one student from each of the state’s 58 community colleges as exemplary in academics, community involvement, and campus participation. It has been sponsored by the N.C. Association of Community College Presidents since 1998.
Trent has been consistently named to the President’s lists and currently holds a 4.0 grade point average. He is a member of the college’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and WCC Criminal Justice Club and is active in his church. He served as the public information chair of the college’s Student Government Association this year and has been elected president of the student body for next year.
Trent received a plaque and a medallion to be worn as part of his commencement regalia next year. They were presented by State Board of Community Colleges Member Jimmie Ford, a Wayne County resident, during ceremonies denoting N.C. Community College Excellence in Education Month as proclaimed by N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory.
“Wayne Community College has helped me work on completing my current goals and strive for success. The teachers, staff, and other students have been a pleasure to work with and made this learning experience the best possible,” Trent said. “Wayne Community College can make the dreams of all students come true, by bringing out the best in someone and applying it to the scope of the future.”
