Ways to Help: Donate, Volunteer

DONATE

United Way of Wayne County has set up a Hurricane Matthew Relief Fund. All monies donated to the fund will be used to support relief efforts for people affected by the storm and long-term recovery needs if funding allows. All of the money raised will be used locally. No administrative costs will be associated with this fund and it is separate from United Way’s annual community campaigns. It will be administered by members of the United Way Board.

  • A “text to give” option is available by texting uwhelpsnc to 41444 and following the prompts to complete a donation.
  • Checks may be made payable to United Way with Disaster Relief Fund shown in the memo of the check, and sent to Post Office Box 73, Goldsboro, NC  27533 or taken to 301 E Ash St., Room 310, Goldsboro.
  • Online gifts may be made at http://www.unitedwayne.org/hurricane-matthew-relief-fund.

A Tip from NC Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster: Cash is best – monetary contributions to voluntary organizations make good sense for a number of reasons:

  • Financial contributions help ensure a steady flow of important services to survivors.
  • Local organizations spend the money in the local affected community, accelerating its economic recovery.
  • Monetary donations, rather than unsolicited donated goods such as clothing, avoid the complicated, costly and time-consuming process of collecting, transporting and distributing these goods.
