WCC Honors Program
Mission Statement:


The purpose of the Honors Program is to offer a challenging educational atmosphere of enrichment and exploration for students of high academic achievement. The program is designed for students who have excelled in the classroom, who have proven to be self-disciplined in their studies, and who have demonstrated a commitment to learning. The Honors Program includes opportunities for service-learning, leadership training, and extended studies. The aim for Wayne Community College is to help accelerated students better prepare themselves for leadership roles in their profession and in the community.

The Honors Program of Wayne Community College focuses on learning, leadership, and service as integral components of a well-rounded education.

To participate in the Honors Program, a student must have:

3.5 GPA + 12 Credit Hours (completed at college level)
Students must maintain a 3.2 GPA to remain eligible for Honors courses.

As participants in the Honors Program, students will

Earn:

  • Honors Certificate (after 12 hours @ Honors level)
  • Notation on transcript
  • Medallion

Enjoy:

  • Service Learning opportunities
  • Personalized learning experiences

To earn the Honors Certificate, all Honors students must complete HUM 230: Leadership Development.


Eligible students who want to participate should:

  • Register for courses denoted with section number “95”

    Students who register for Honors courses but who are not eligible or who have not signed an Honors contract will be dropped from the Honors course(s).

  • Visit the Honors Coordinator to sign a letter of intent.
    This letter simply states that you are taking an Honors course and gives the Honors Coordinator an opportunity to meet with you and advise you on Honors courses.
