Graduate’s Little Free Library Installed in Transfer Center

July 12, 2019

Wayne County bus riders will be invited to take a book and read by a Wayne Community College Adult High School graduate’s creation.

Recent graduate Dexter Taylor designed the Little Free Library in the Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority Transfer Center.

Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority Executive Director Don Willis, WCC Student Dexter Taylor, and Literacy Connections of Wayne County Executive Director Suzie Acree unveil the Little Free Library.

It was dedicated on July 10 by the Authority and Literacy Connections of Wayne County.

A Little Free Library is a free book exchange. Anyone can take a book or bring a book to share.

Dexter Taylor designed the bookcase while working at Literacy Connections of Wayne County, a work experience opportunity provided by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act NEXTGEN program while he was a student in Wayne Community College’s Adult High School.

As the ceremony wraps up, the first customer finds a book to take home.

Taylor earned his high school diploma in May and will continue his education in WCC’s Business Administration program this fall. He is a thoughtful artist and those skills are evident in the details of the little library, from the buses on the panel of the handles to the marquee that reflects one of the prominent architectural elements of the neighboring Union Station.

The “seed” books were provided by high school students and the Friends of the Wayne County Public Library.
