Wayne Community College has officially sworn in the newest member of its Board of Trustees.
Billy Brock took the oath of office and joined the WCC Board of Trustees during the regular board meeting on Sept. 22. He was appointed to the position by the Senate.
A Wayne County native, Brock has owned and operated Billy Brock Construction, Inc., for more than 30 years. The company specializes primarily in commercial construction. Brock is also a partner with Brock Works, LLC, and Winds Aloft Investment Group, LLC.
Brock is a graduate of the University of Mount Olive, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and business management.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve Wayne Community College and look forward to working with the College and supporting its continued success,” Brock said.
By statute, the 58 North Carolina community college boards of trustees each have 12 members appointed to four-year terms plus the student government president serving as an ex officio nonvoting member. Trustees are appointed by the board of commissioners of the county in which the institution is located and the General Assembly.
State statute also sets out the board’s role with its institution, giving each “powers to enable it to acquire, hold, and transfer real and personal property, to enter into contracts, to institute and defend legal actions and suits, and to exercise such other rights and privileges as may be necessary for the management and administration of the institution.”
