Faucette Named Outstanding Educator

Julie H. Faucette has been recognized as an outstanding educator.

Faucette, an instructor in Wayne Community College’s Academic Foundations Department, received the 2020 Hilda P. Barrow Outstanding Developmental Educator of the Year Award from the North Carolina Organization for Student Success.

Faucette teaches study skills courses and success courses that prepare students to function effectively in the college environment to meet their educational objectives.

The award recognizes an instructor’s service in and support of student success programs and contributions that have helped students achieve their desired goals. Criteria include a lifetime of service to students through professional excellence and personal commitment.

“Julie is kind, compassionate, caring, and expects excellence from her students. She is a well deserving recipient of this award,” said Dr. Tammy J. Bishop, chair of the WCC Academic Foundations Department.

Faucette received a plaque and a cash award. She will be the state’s nominee for the National Organization for Student Success’ Gladys R. Shaw Outstanding Service and Support for Student Success Award that will be awarded in the spring.

The North Carolina Organization for Student Success is a voice on behalf of those who serve underprepared students at post-secondary institutions throughout North Carolina. Its members are committed to promoting educational access, opportunity, academic skill development, and student success.
