Registration is open for several Wayne Community College short-term training courses that prepare students for health care careers.

The Medical Billing and Coding Certificate Program, composed of two online courses, will be offered this summer, starting May 16 and ending Aug. 14.

It is an introductory program that leads to a certificate from the college and the opportunity to seek certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Part I introduces medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. It also teaches the fundamentals of medical coding, billing, and insurance. Part II covers health insurance and selecting appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes, as well as legal, moral, and ethical issues.

An Activity Director – Basic course that provides the qualifications necessary to work in a healthcare-related setting will be held. It is the 90 hours of training required by the N.C. The course will be taught 5:30-8:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, May 20 through July 29.

EKG Monitor Technician, a course that serves as the prerequisite for EKG technician certification offered by the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, will be offered.
