Middle and high school students are invited to explore hobbies and future careers through Wayne Community College’s Junior Bison Summer Camps.
“Students who participate in our Junior Bison Summer Camps will gain a peek into real-world experiences and hands-on activities in various career areas,” said WCC Vice President of Workforce Continuing Education Services and Community Engagement Renita Dawson.
This year’s camps are:
Allied Health Career Exploration – June 10-13: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for rising sixth-eighth graders and 1-4 p.m. for rising ninth-12th graders. This camp will introduce campers to various career fields in allied health, and the week will end with basic first aid & CPR training. Cost: $60.
Business Career Exploration – June 17-20: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for rising sixth-eighth graders and 1-4 p.m. for rising ninth-12th graders. Campers will learn how money works and what it takes to work in business. They will also get hands-on experience with a chance to create their own business and design a logo. Cost: $60.
Cyberpatriot Cybersecurity Camp – June 24-28: 8 a.m.-12 p.m. for rising eighth-12th graders. This camp teaches beginners the basics of cybersecurity; prior cybersecurity knowledge is optional. On the last day, campers will participate in a cybersecurity competition. Cost: $60.
Let’s Go LEGO® Leadership – June 24-27: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for rising sixth-eighth graders. Campers will learn leadership skills through creative LEGO® activities. They will get experience working in teams and leading business projects using LEGO® bricks. The campers will learn what leadership style they have and how it works in teams. Cost: $60.
Truck Driver Career Exploration – June 17-20: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for rising ninth-12th graders. This interactive camp will introduce the truck driver training industry. The campers will learn the steps of obtaining the credentials to become a truck driver and explore their day-to-day responsibilities. Cost: $60.
Beekeepers Camp – June 17-20: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for rising sixth-eighth graders and 1-4 p.m. for rising ninth-12th graders. This camp investigates the importance of pollinating insects in the environment. Participants will learn about honey bees and beekeeping through lectures and hands-on activities. Cost: $60.
Public Safety Career Exploration – June 24-27: 1-4 p.m. for rising eighth-12th graders. This camp will introduce the basics of law enforcement, emergency medical service, and fire services careers by giving campers hands-on experience in these areas. Cost: $60.
Video Game Academy – June 10-13: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for rising ninth-12th graders and 1-4 p.m. for rising sixth-eighth graders. This camp introduces various aspects of simulation and game development. Campers will engage in the process of 3D modeling, creating video games, and programming, gaining hands-on experience designing and producing game artifacts to share with family and friends. Cost: $80.
Math Academy – June 24-27: 1-4 p.m. for rising sixth-eighth graders. This interactive camp is designed specifically for middle school students who want to discover the magic of mathematics in a fun and engaging way. It offers a dynamic blend of hands-on activities, group challenges, and exploratory learning experiences. Cost: $60.
