Medical Coding and Billing Training Starts Jan. 22

January 12, 2018

Wayne Community College will offer a set of classes that prepares students to be certified medical coding and billing specialists.

Medical Billing and Coding is an online course that is taught in two parts across the spring semester. It leads to a certificate from the college and the opportunity to seek certification as a Certified Professional Coder from the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Part I introduces medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. It also teaches the fundamentals of medical coding, billing and insurance.

Part II covers health insurance, diagnostic and procedure coding; methods for selecting appropriate codes and coding skills; and legal, moral and ethical issues.

While the course is online with no set “class meetings,” it is recommended that students log on three times a week to access materials and complete assignments.

The class is set for Jan. 22-May 11.

The registration fee is $180 and required books cost $200. Grant or scholarship funding may be available for those who qualify.
