Medical Coding and Billing Training Starts May 17

May 09, 2018

Wayne Community College will offer classes that prepare students to become certified medical coding and billing specialists.

Medical Billing and Coding Part 1 is a “web-supported” class that introduces medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. It also teaches the fundamentals of medical coding, billing and insurance. Students who complete the course earn a certificate of completion.

Part I classes will meet 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 17-Aug. 14, and the rest is done online.

Medical Billing and Coding Part II, which can only be taken after completing Part I, builds on the first class. It helps students achieve proficiency in coding skills and introduces legal, moral, and ethical issues involved in providing health-care services. It leads to a certificate from the college and the opportunity to seek certification as a Certified Professional from the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Part II is scheduled for May 16-Aug 14 completely online. While online courses have no set “class meetings,” it is recommended that students log on three times a week to access materials and complete assignments.

The registration fee for each course is $180 and several textbooks are required.
