Wayne Community College will host an Operation Medicine Drop session on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
The collection will take place 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Room 161 (“Seminar Room”) of the Wayne Learning Center (main building), on the college’s main campus in Goldsboro.
Members of the public can turn in expired and unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, and pet medications to be properly destroyed. No questions will be asked and identifying information on containers will be obscured.
Students in the college’s Pharmacy Technology program will staff the college’s event along with representatives of the Safe Kids Wayne County coalition.
The collection is held in conjunction with Safe Kids Wayne County and the Goldsboro Police Department in observance of National Poison Prevention Week March 17-23.
Other drop-off dates and locations are:
March 18, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center, 2001 East Ash St., Goldsboro;
March 19, 1:00-3:00 p.m., Walgreens, 2602 East Ash St., Goldsboro; and
March 22, 7:00-11:00 a.m., Wayne UNC Health Care, 2700 Wayne Memorial Dr., Goldsboro.
Operation Medicine Drop helps prevent accidental poisonings, environmental contamination, and drug abuse, misuse, and illegal distribution. Unintentional poisoning has become the leading cause of injury death in North Carolina, overtaking motor vehicle deaths in 2010, according to the N.C. Division of Public Health.
Last year’s four Wayne County Operation Medicine Drop events collected a total of 157,736 units of medication.
