Associate Degree Nursing student Hannah Rhodes is the recipient of Wayne Community College’s 2026 Governor Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award.
The award highlights an outstanding curriculum student’s leadership and service. It honors former Gov. Bob Scott, who served as the state’s chief executive from 1968–1972 and president of the North Carolina Community College System from 1983–1995.

Rhodes is vice president of WCC’s Student Government Association and has served as an SGA officer for three years. She is also an officer of WCC’s Associate Degree Nursing Club for the class of 2027 and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Rhodes has helped organize several campus events, such as Fall Fest, Trunk-or-Treat, and the Back to School Bash. She has also assisted with recruiting activities, including new student orientation and leading campus tours.
In addition to her leadership roles at WCC, Rhodes is involved in the community. She has volunteered with the Salvation Army, in her church, and with local middle and high school soccer teams as a coach.
“I strive to motivate others by recognizing their abilities, strengths, and continuous growth in a healthy environment that fosters collaboration,” Rhodes wrote in an essay on leadership. “By leading as an example and showing compassion and accountability, I allow those around me to feel valued and heard, creating an environment where we can all strive to do our best.”
Rhodes was honored as the award winner at WCC’s Student Recognition Ceremony held this month.
Award finalists and their programs are Jared Barwick – Emergency Management and Diamond Simmons – Associate in Science.
