Wayne Community College welcomed United States Rep. Greg Murphy for a campus visit on Monday, March 2.
Murphy attended the groundbreaking ceremony for WCC’s new agriculture building. While on campus, he toured WCC’s facilities and learned about the College’s academic programs from faculty members.
WCC President Patty Pfeiffer led Murphy on the tour. They were joined by North Carolina State Rep. John Bell and Sen. Buck Newton.

The group explored the Center for Industrial Technology and Engineering (CITE), WCC’s newest building. CITE is home to many programs in the College’s Applied Technologies division.
The tour also included a stop in the Spruce Building, where WCC’s new state-of-the-art cybersecurity lab is located. Designed to mirror real-world environments, the lab equips students with hands-on experience in ethical hacking, network monitoring, and other critical defense strategies that employers demand.
Pfeiffer also led the officials to WCC’s Pine Building, where the College’s nursing programs are housed. The building is currently undergoing renovations to accommodate anticipated enrollment growth, ultimately helping address the statewide nursing shortage by increasing the number of students WCC accepts into its programs.
“We were honored to welcome Representative Murphy to campus and to share the many exciting initiatives taking place at WCC,” said Pfeiffer. “Building strong relationships with our elected officials is vital to ensuring we can continue expanding high-quality educational and workforce training opportunities for our community.”
Murphy represents the third district of North Carolina.
