WCC Providing Accelerated Health Professional Training

January 22, 2021

In response to the demand for additional medical personnel, Wayne Community College is adding accelerated nurse aide and phlebotomist training this spring.

The courses will run March to May and prepare students to take certification exams.

The Certified Nursing Assistant course introduces basic skills required to provide personal care for patients, residents, or clients in a health care setting. It prepares students for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination necessary for certification and listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.

The Nursing Assistant classes will be taught 1:30-5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, March 1-May 14. The class is limited to 10 students.

The Phlebotomy course trains students to draw blood specimens from patients. It prepares them to earn certification from the National Phlebotomy Association. It is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, March 4-May 14.

The cost of each of these courses is $180 plus the price of uniforms and books.

Financial assistance may be available for these courses. Contact Maxine Cooper at mcooper@waynecc.edu or 919-739-6938 about eligibility.

In order to register for either of these courses, potential students must contact Allied Health staff members Elizabeth Curry at eacurry@waynecc.edu or Terrie Wynn at tjwynn@waynecc.edu or call 919-739-6935.
