WCC to Host Third Annual Vocal Fest

September 29, 2025

Wayne Community College will hold its third annual Vocal Fest on Thursday, Oct. 16, bringing high school singers from 10 schools across North Carolina to the College.

Students will rehearse on the day of the festival, which concludes with a final concert at 4 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium inside the Wayne Learning Center (the main building on WCC’s campus with the flag poles in front).

The concert is free and open to the public. It will also be livestreamed on WCC’s YouTube channel.

Students wear matching yellow shirts and hold sheet music while singing together.

This year, Michael Engelhardt will serve as the festival’s guest clinician. Engelhardt is a nationally recognized vocalist, composer, conductor, and producer, and he will work with WCC’s music faculty to prepare the festival participants for the mass choir concert.

A total of 135 singers, consisting of high school students and the WCC choir, will perform at the end of the festival. The concert will also feature a performance by the high school music directors who will join the WCC choir to sing a selection composed by Engelhardt.

In conjunction with Vocal Fest, submitted performance videos of student solos or small ensembles will be evaluated by WCC’s music faculty. Three winners will get the chance to showcase their talents in a special performance at the concert and will receive a monetary award.
