Wayne Community College will offer its artificial intelligence program to students at Lenoir Community College through a new agreement between the two schools.
LCC students can take WCC’s AI classes online after they complete their first-year general education classes. Once they complete the program, they will earn an Associate in Applied Science – Artificial Intelligence Engineer degree through WCC.
WCC’s Artificial Intelligence Engineer program gives students the skills to design, implement, and support AI and help organizations transition to AI technology.
WCC President Patty Pfeiffer and LCC President Rusty Hunt signed the official Instructional Service Agreement (ISA) at a ceremony held on WCC’s campus.
Pfeiffer said the partnership will help the region’s economic development. “We all use artificial intelligence every day,” she said. “We know the importance of the industry and the need to educate people within it, so we are honored to partner with LCC.”
Hunt acknowledged the strong partnership between WCC and LCC, which is further strengthened by the new agreement. “This is a great opportunity for us,” he said. “It delivers resources responsibly across our community college system. It is another avenue to make AI accessible to our students, as well as WCC’s students.”
WCC was the first community college in the state, and the second in the nation, to offer an associate degree specializing in AI.
This is WCC’s fifth ISA for its AI program. It also extends its Artificial Intelligence Engineer degree to students at Brunswick, Johnston, Wilson, and Nash community colleges.
