Passing the national board exam allows individuals to earn the title of Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). The exam tests students on general chairside assisting, infection control, and radiation health and safety.

WCC Dental Department Chair Brenda Maddox explained that taking the exam is not required for dental assistants in North Carolina, but it is a nationally recognized achievement for the graduates. “What a huge accomplishment for all 20 graduates to take the credentialing exam and all pass the exam to become CDAs,” Maddox said.

Maddox also expressed appreciation for the dental faculty and staff who helped the students accomplish this goal. “They spend a tireless amount of time and energy pouring knowledge into students and developing their skills,” she said.

This is the second consecutive year that WCC’s Dental Assisting graduates have achieved a 100% pass rate on the national board exam. Additionally, the College’s Dental Hygiene graduates had a perfect pass rate this year on the board exams required for their licensure.

WCC’s limited-admission Dental Assisting program offers a diploma and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Learn more about the program on our website.
