Moffatt Auditorium | March 09, 2026 5:30 pm

The Foundation of Wayne Community College’s spring Arts and Humanities series continues with “Boundaries of Loyalty: Militiamen and the Pursuit of Property in Backcountry North Carolina.”

Susannah Haury will deliver this American Revolution Sesquicentennial Lecture and Kirk Keller Memorial Lecture on Monday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium located inside the Wayne Learning Center (the main building on campus with the flag poles in front). It is free and open to the public to attend.

Haury’s lecture will investigate the role of Revolutionary War militiamen who moved across southern state lines and what their patterns of movement and repeated enlistment reveal about the nature of militia service and community formation in the southern backcountry. Haury is a doctoral candidate in history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
