Camp Kilowatt Returns for 11th Year

May 14, 2019

Wayne Community College’s energy camp, Camp Kilowatt, will return for its 11th year this summer.

Campers marvel at how high a glider is propelled during a Camp Kilowatt session held at Eastern Wayne Middle School last year.

This year the energy-focused camp will have separate camps for middle school and high school students on the college’s campus and some middle schools will again host camps.

On-campus participants will explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) areas such as electronics, robotics, and manufacturing, as well as alternative energy.

The campus camp for rising fifth- through eighth-graders is set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m., July 8-11. Cost is $80 and covers all materials and lunch. Registration and payment deadline is June 10.

Rising ninth-12th graders can attend camp 1:30-4 p.m., July 24-27. It will cost $40 for materials and snacks. Deadline to register and pay is June 17.

The camps will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration forms and more information can be found at www.waynecc.edu/campkilowatt/.

Again this year, the college is partnering with Wayne County Public Schools to provide camps for middle school students in some area schools. These camps will explore STEM through an energy lens. Parents should contact their students’ schools for more information.
