This course instructs individuals wanting to become commissioned as a notary public or those up for re-certification. Topics include the Notary Act’s legal, ethical, and procedural requirements as described in N.C. General Statue 10B Article 1. Prerequisites: Student must be at least 18 years of age; reside or have a regular place of work or business in this state; speak, read, and write English language and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80 percent, a person is eligible to make an application with N.C. Secretary of State’s Office.
There is a book required: North Carolina Notary Public Manual, 2026 edition. The ISBN is: 9781642381405, and this book can be purchased in our bookstore or at the UNC School of Government under publications. You will also need to be able to present your driver’s license or a valid state ID.

e-Notary (Notary Public Education Online)
