Medical Laboratory Technology

If you like science, solving mysteries, and teamwork, Medical Laboratory Technology may be the career for you!  The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) curriculum at Wayne Community College will prepare you to become a valuable part of a medical team of pathologists, technologists, and technicians working together to provide information to aid in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease.  Highly qualified MLTs perform clinical laboratory procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology and immunohematology. Our curriculum will provide training in theory as well as clinical experience.

Medical Laboratory Technician was ranked #60 on the list of “100 Best Jobs of 2021” and #8 in the “Best Health Care Support Jobs” by the US News and World Report.

Clinical Experience

Clinical experience allows students to practice the skills and techniques learned in didactic courses. The clinical experience will encompass all disciplines as well as phlebotomy.

Admission into clinical courses is dependent on a criminal background check and a drug screening. The clinical affiliate will review the background check and drug screening to determine whether the student can progress to the clinical site.
